Yall, if there has ever in the world been a "perfect home" for me, its this one!
I came across this gem and it literally makes my heart leap for joy!
If there was a way to buy it later in life, Id give them a baby down payment TOMORROW because I LOVE it that much.
I should start out by saying that I am NOT a traditional home kinda girl. My heart skips beat for Industrial/Contemporary/Loft style homes. This isnt normal, I KNOW! But I LOVES it!
Now let me introduce you to... My reality dream home.
{The Entry Way = Love the full glass front door and that stairway! The open iron steps are amazing!}
{The Living Room captured my heart at first sight! Favorites = Those red columns, the ceilings (see next pic) and the sunken living room (I think its called recess flooring, not sure though).}
{Another view. Wall of windows = LOVE and that ceiling, oh words cannot explain the LOVE}
{Another view into the kitchen and dining areas! Love the thick black beams that line each line of the this area connected to the columns}
{Oh hello adorable modern fireplace and built in entertainment center!}
{This chandelier was made to be in my home! LOVE. Not a fan of their table but I love everything else!}
{Ill take the artwork too! Thanks}
{The perfect kitchen! I love the size and openess of this space! Im not one who wants an enormous kitchen. Its just more space to get dirty and catch junk! This is the PERFECT kitchen for me!}
{Perfection!}
{Im in LOVE with the open cabinets on that back wall.}
{Everything I NEED!!}
{Guest bathroom in the main living area. How cute is that mirror?!}
{Guest bedroom = LOVE the built in wardrobe! LOVE LOVE LOVE!}
{Master bathroom. I love the open shower and cabinets.}
{The Open Area at the top of the stairs. This has man cave written all over it.}
{Balcony off open area}
{Balcony view}
{Downtown view}
And there you have it, my dream home!! I couldnt find good pics of the master bedroom! :(

A lot of you were asking me what I do to save money and here's your answer.
I have to have a GOAL to save. I will never be a person who just saves to save. Its just not in me. To be honest I think life is WAY too short to spend it being a penny pincher so I always keep enough in my checking account for emergencies (approx. $1000) and I spend the rest.
I have a HSA account for my health care, and a 401K, that gets a montly deposit straight out of my paycheck to cover my health needs and retirement. In addition to these two accounts, I have a savings account linked to my checking account which is what I use to save money for vacationing, shopping sprees, etc. The problem with this savings account is that its too easy to withdraw from. With a click of a button I can put my "savings" directly into my checking and spend it. This is what happens right before vacation or when I decide I "need" to go on a shopping spree. This is why Chris set up a High Yield Savings Account for me through American Express strictly for our house savings. This account is linked one way from by checking for deposits which makes it more difficult to spend. I would suggest this account if you are saving money for a long term goal or are SURE you dont want to withdraw from it.
So back to the goals. Set goals for yourself. When I say goals, I mean find something you want to save for. For example, I know we have 2 vacations coming up this summer. I know we will need airfare, lodging and spending money for both. So by October I will need approx. $2000 in my vacation account which means I need to be putting $200 a month in that account. Its simple math. By using this method you wont feel broke as a joke when vacation hits and you wont be putting it on a credit card. All together you will feel better about the vacation kowing that youre not putting yourself in debt or coming home broke.
As for the home fund, Chris and I spent some time looking at homes we would want to buy on a realtor website here in Houston. We agreed on the area we want to live in, the type of home we wanted to buy and then found a few that we would buy if we were going to purchase now. We then took the average price of these homes and found the price range we would be looking at. Chris figured in all the costs (taxes, closing cost, insurance) associated with buying a home and figured out what our montly mortgage would be. With this info we determined how much each of us would need to save for the down payment. We agreed to each deposit a set amount into our seperate home funds each month for our down payment. Planning ahead will quickly motivate you to set up a savings account and to start working toward your goal!
The home above was the home we would buy if we were to purchase tomorrow.
That ladies, will give you the insentive to save!
The one warning I will give you is this. DO NOT save yourself poor. If you feel like you are saving so much of your money that you never have money to spend on everyday life YOU WILL GIVE UP. Make sure you still have a little room in your budget to go to dinner with friends once a week or to buy a cute shirt on a Friday night. You need to set realistic savings goals. Save enough to be comfortable, NOT poor.
So there you have it. Set GOALS and work to save for them. You CAN do it! Promise!

I’m Kristen. Welcome to All In My Twenties, my place to pour my little heart out on the daily!! This is the world just as I see it. Why dont you kick up your feet and stay awhile?!

That house is so cool!! :) And I LOVE all your savings tips. If I'm being honest, I'm horrible at saving. But this is REALLY good advice!
ReplyDeleteThese are great tips! Our savings account is linked to our checking too so we drain it too often and too easily. I love the idea of a separate account, will be looking in to that today. :)
ReplyDeleteAND, that house is incredible! My style is definitely a weird mix of traditional and modern, I love so many things about that fabulous place.
Judging from the houses around the one you posted, I'm pretty positive that it's around the corner from my sister's house. I'm more of a traditional person, but the openness in that house is AMAZING!!
ReplyDeleteYou are spot on with the savings advice! Like with any other goal, it needs to be specific, saving just to save pretty much guarantees that you will spend it. And now I think I need to open a new savings account just for vacations...having the same one for our down payment and for vacations usually means we skip the vacation. Not OK!
Girlfriend there MUST be a vacation account! I need that over the shopping account! We are HUGE on vacays! Its the one thing that makes me go to work every day!
DeleteOh wow love that house! These are good tips for saving and realistic, I like how you mentioned not saving yourself poor. People rarely mention that. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis is a good post, especially for chicks our age. The most important part of savings is not how much you put in, but how long you LEAVE it in. {Lessons from my husband, the finance major.} You are right, if you save "too tight" you will give up and blow the money ... it's kind of like a diet with no room for any cheating at all. My husband also says, "Pay yourself first," meaning, deposit into your savings, just like paying a bill ... even if not interest collecting bills (like medical bills that you can pay toward, but don't collect interest) get put on hold.
ReplyDeleteWe set up an acct for our wedding (we paid for the majority ourselves) kind of like you do for your vacays, so that we could pay it in full, and come out debt free and it felt amazing!
We also put just about EVERYTHING ON CREDIT I know - sounds nuts - but we pay off the CC every month in full so that we don't carry a balance, and we earn a fair amount of rewards cash this way.
Good tips, and good topic! Have a great day, girl!
The CC rewards is SO great but SO many people would NOT pay it off every month which is why I didnt even mention that! Chris and I actually do that a lot!
DeleteThat is true ... it is dangerous for a lot of people! :)
DeleteIt amazes me how you and I can be SO MUCH alike and then have such drastically different tastes in houses!! So funny! YOu are such a city girl...but I still love you. ;)
ReplyDeleteLOVE that open shower concept and all the windows. Will you be home this weekend?? You NEED to come over!
Yes I will and YES I can come over!!! What are you doing Friday? Saturday we are going out for Kate's birthday! You and Beau should come! Call me today and we will make plans!!
DeleteLOVES!!!! Do you get that cat with the house too?! LOL! Great saving advice!!! So exciting!!
ReplyDeleteHahah! I thought about photoshopping Tuggie over tha cat!
DeleteUh! I need to be saving too! :(
ReplyDeleteLove that house! I need to be better about saving money. Do you get hit with a fee to withdraw money from the High Yield Savings Account through AMEX? I can't have my accounts linked both ways, its too dangerous for me!!
ReplyDeleteIm not sure. I dont think so though.
Deletewhat about Christmas money? How do you figure that in?
ReplyDeleteHaha! That would be included in the savings account for vacation and shopping. I usually budget that in a few months before Christmas. This year Ill add that in October after the vacations which will give be almost 3 months.
DeleteI LOVE that house! We are currently saving for a wedding (in two weeks), a big move (from DC to SF), and a house. It's overwhelming, but I like your tips!
ReplyDeleteThat's a beauty! Ya know, I'm in a family full of realtors so if you ever want to see it, I can let you in.... ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm so in love with that house. You have good taste ;) I love these types of houses; unfortunately, there's absolutely nothing like that here. If I were to buy a house, it would take some serious remodeling to get it looking the way I want.
ReplyDeletelove contemporary!
ReplyDeleteWow I'm in love with that place. The mother in me is thinking about how impossible it would be to live in with our two small kids, but so gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThat house is AWESOME! Great savings tips as well, this girl needs as the help she can get!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your saving tips.. Now i just need to start saving :)

This is the best advice. I'm moving in with my boyfriend in May when we move to a new city, and we're pretty set on living in an apartment until we can afford a house. As a college student only working part time and in summers I've never been great at saving, but I'm working on it!
ReplyDeletexoxo
love the house & the savings plan! perfect.
ReplyDeleteLove the whole saving plan :)
ReplyDeleteYou have inspired me to start saving more! I'm on a college girl budget, so saving should already be a part of my life, but once I see enough money in my bank account for the cute top I saw on J Crew I can't help it! I'm going to take it day by day and start saving a little at a time! Look at me acting like I'm addicted to shopping or something... ;)
ReplyDeleteLOVE this post!! Your tips are very practical and seem very "do-able."
ReplyDeleteOoh, that house is gorgeous and unique! I love it! I'm definitely not all for the "traditional" style home either. Why buy something everyone else already has? :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for the two of you to be in the house-buying mode! Thanks so much for sharing your spending/saving tips. I'm a big-time saver and always love hearing what other people do to save! xo
All the images are looking mind blowing thanks for the sharing and just keep it up.

This is Stan's type of dream home too! He loves the industrial look. He used to have a loft downtown in his single days lol that was similar to this look.
ReplyDeletelove love love the industrial feel of that home! great savings tips too - super practical.
ReplyDeleteI love your saying, "don't save yourself poor." That is SO TRUE!! Good words to live by.
ReplyDeleteYour saving tips are worth commending! I’m sure that with this method, you are now close to acquiring your dream home. If this is not the one you’re buying, then can we please have a peek of some houses that you’re aiming for? Based on this amazing house, I can say that your tastes are superb.
ReplyDeleteRegards,

“I have to have a GOAL to save.” Purchasing your dream house is something that needs thorough preparation – emotionally and financially. Start things right and be determined and responsible enough to SAVE. Set your goals and keep it as high as possible so that you’ll be inspired to work hard towards it.
ReplyDelete-Antony Shuler
Set GOALS and work to save for them. Have a clear idea of what you want to achieve and be inspired by it. Like what Lakisha said, I can see that you have a wonderful taste for houses and without a doubt, your dream house says a lot for itself: stylish and just so fabulous! Let’s just hope that you’ll soon find the house that you are looking for.
